Dos Pueblos girls soccer pulled out a 1-0 shutout victory over Ventura High on Tuesday at Scott O’Leary Stadium in Goleta.
The Charger offense was on the attack all night long, but the lone goal of the contest didn’t come until late in the second half.
Hazel Burgess found herself with the ball and passed it over to Paige Ferro at the top of the 18-yard box, where Ferro unleashed a rocket of a shot that beat the Cougar goalkeeper and gave her team a 1-0 lead.
The Dos Pueblos defensive unit then held on as it had all game, securing its fourth clean sheet of the season.
Jocelyn Simmons anchored the defense at goalkeeper, while the group of Charlize Welch, Alma Basave, Sophie Rodriguez, Kacey Hurley and Anastasia Brunner all made clutch defensive plays.
While it was Ferro who connected for the game-winning goal, Alina Seidel and Dillan Christopher each had multiple shots on goal as consistent offensive threats.
The Chargers (7-1, 3-0 Channel League) will be on the road against Buena on Thursday.
Oxnard 3, Santa Barbara High 1
The Dons dropped their Channel League matchup with the Yellow Jackets on Tuesday in Oxnard.
Oxnard struck first in the opening half, but Santa Barbara High evened the score at 1-1 when Ginger Winckler outran a trio of Yellow Jacket defenders and scored.
However, Oxnard scored before halftime and added one more goal in the second half to secure the win.
“The team is showing signs of improvement,” Santa Barbara High head coach Willie Sims said. “We have been competitive in every match this season. The results do not show all the hard work, commitment and effort the girls are putting in each day at practice.
“Goalkeeper Alice Sweeney had another great game with numerous saves, including a penalty kick.”
The Dons (1-3-3, 0-2-1 Channel League) will host Pacifica on Thursday at 5:15 p.m.
Pacifica 2, San Marcos 1
The Royals couldn’t complete a comeback against the Tritons on Tuesday in Oxnard.
Pacifica netted two goals in the opening half and that proved to be enough for the win, as San Marcos’ lone goal came on a free kick score by Cami Sparks.
“We didn’t come out with the right energy in the first half and Pacifica took advantage of that and capitalized on two mistakes we made in our own half,” San Marcos head coach Miguel Vences said. “The girls did a great job responding in the second half by making the right adjustments, but just couldn’t get that second goal.”
Villanova Prep 3, Laguna Blanca 2
The Owls fell on the road in a non-league contest with Villanova on Tuesday in Ojai.
After Villanova opened up the scoring early in the first half, Laguna Blanca netted the equalizer when Arden Blagden placed a shot into the top left corner of the goal. The 1-1 tie held into halftime.
Villanova answered with a goal early in the second half, but Blagden was there to answer once again with a strong individual effort and goal to even things up at 2-2.
The Owls continued to fight down the stretch, but Villanova took the lead for good in the final 10 minutes of the match.
“I am happy with the way we played and not upset with the result because the girls fought hard with only 11 players and no subs,” Laguna Blanca head coach Jose Rodriguez said. “I want to highlight Sophomore Arden Blagden on her control of the midfield, along with the two goals she scored.
“I also want to highlight Freshman Elle Harris and Angelina Arria for the defensive work they put on the field today.”
