Dos Pueblos girls soccer continued its strong season with a 3-1 Channel League victory over Rio Mesa on Tuesday in Oxnard.
The Chargers, now 9-2-2 overall and 4-1 in league action, will play host to rival San Marcos on Thursday at 5:15 p.m.
Alina Seidel opened the scoring for Dos Pueblos with a breakaway goal early in the first half. Seidel continued to get in on the action just before halftime, crossing a corner kick to Anya Newton, who scored for the 2-0 lead.
Kacey Hurley rounded out the Charger scoring in the second half with a goal off an assist from Brooklyn Hedricks to bring the game to its final score of 3-1.
Laguna Blanca 14, Santa Clara 2
The Owls rolled to a lopsided win over Santa Clara on Tuesday.
Arden Blagden continued her standout season with a whopping six goals, while Elle Harris recorded a hat trick and Lauren Kenny scored twice.
Meanwhile, the duo of Kenny and Abby Conner turned in a strong performance from the goalkeeper position.
“As soon as the whistle started, our girls were ready to play,” Laguna Blanca head coach Jose Rodriguez said.
Buena 3, Santa Barbara High 0
The Dons suffered a shutout loss to the Bulldogs on Tuesday night at Peabody Stadium.
“We continue to show improvement in our team play,” Santa Barbara High head coach Willie Sims said. “Collectively, this was one of the better games we had all season as we built out of the back and maintained possession for extended periods.
“We had a few looks on goal, yet we are still trying to find success in the final third. Our goalkeeper, Alice Sweeney, had another amazing night, making numerous saves and was a commanding presence for the team.”
The Dons’ midfield unit of Kimberly Monroy, Cora Heckes, Sofia Guerrero and Paloma Valenzuela turned in a strong performance despite the loss.
Santa Barbara High (1-5-3, 0-4-1 Channel League) will be on the road against Ventura on Thursday.
Ventura 3, San Marcos 2
The Royals struggled down the stretch and fell to the Cougars on Tuesday at Warkentin Stadium.
San Marcos had the upper hand early, scoring two goals courtesy of Sofia Rodriguez and Cami Sparks to take a 2-0 lead.
However, Ventura quickly responded and dominated the rest of the game with three unanswered goals to escape with the road win.
“Tough result tonight for the girls,” San Marcos head coach Miguel Vences said. “We had the ideal start, leading 2-0, but we are going through a difficult spell right now where we can’t close out games even though stylistically and technically we’ve had great performances.”
The Royals will look to bounce back on the road against Dos Pueblos on Thursday.
