A fundraiser has been set up for the family of a Goleta woman who was found dead in a Ventura County river in late January.
A private pilot spotted what seemed to be a human body in the Santa Clara River on Jan. 23, according to Ventura County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Rob Yoos.
The Ventura County Sheriff’s Office aviation unit and patrol confirmed the pilot’s findings, he added.
The body was identified as 30-year-old Goleta resident, Kaylynn Herrera.
Herrera’s body was found partially decomposed, but detectives don’t know yet the day she died, Yoos said.
“The length of time is still part of the on-going investigation,” he added.
Additionally, the cause and manner of death are still under investigation, according to the Ventura County Medical Examiner’s Office.
However, detectives have found no indication of foul play, according to Yoos.
Herrera’s family started a GoFundMe page on Saturday to raise money for funeral expenses and to financially support her children.
“Kaylynn Herrera was a beloved member of our family whose sudden passing has left us heartbroken,” the GoFundMe said. “She touched the lives of everyone around her with her kindness, warmth, and unwavering love for her children.”
As of Tuesday, the fundraiser collected more than $13,000.
The investigation into Herrera’s death was continuing, Yoos said.
