Grant Carmichael of Buellton has been named CFO of CommUnify, a Community Action Agency, the group’s Board of Directors has announced.

Carmichael, a Certified Public Accountant, has more than 20 years of experience as a finance professional in the private sector, with expertise in strategic and operational planning, audits, financial reporting, systems implementation, and building scalable infrastructure in emerging growth companies.

His previous experience includes finance management roles at Gigavac LLC, Central Coast Agriculture, and Gateway Computers.

“CommUnify is thrilled to have Grant joining our team,” said Patricia Keelean, CEO. “Grant’s financial expertise, coupled with his leadership skills and vision for creating sustainable growth are greatly needed as we continue to maneuver the challenges brought on by the pandemic.

“Equally important is Grant’s passion for the work we do, and his deep understanding of the needs of our community which will help us fulfil our mission of helping families to become financially secure and self-sufficient.”

While Carmichael said he is eager to bring his knowledge and leadership to the nonprofit world, he also looks forward to giving back to the community. He currently donates time to Santa Ynez Valley Arts Outreach, AYSO, and the Santa Ynez Valley Children’s Museum.

“Having grown up in a low-income family, raised by a single mother, I like to think that I’m familiar with some of the challenges facing our families in need,” Carmichael said.

“I am honored to join CommUnify’s committed team, and to take part in something that strengthens the foundation of our families and communities in Santa Barbara County,” he said.

Carmichael holds a bachelor of science degree in accounting from California State University Northridge, and an MBA in finance and innovation entrepreneurship from Northeastern University in Boston.
