Six people were injured, one seriously, in a multi-vehicle crash shortly after midnight Tuesday on Highway 101 in Santa Barbara, according to the Santa Barbara City Fire Department.
The collision involving three vehicles occurred in the southbound lanes just south of the Carrillo Street offramp, fire Battalion Chief Michael Hoose told Noozhawk.
Several other vehicles sustained damage due to debris in the roadway, he added.
Extrication was required for the occupants of two vehicles, and three AMR ambulances were used to take all six patients to Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital, Hoose said.
Their names and details on their conditions were not available.
One vehicle ripped out a large section of guardrail that ended up on the offramp, he added.
The freeway was down to a single lane after the crash while emergency crews tended to the injured and cleaned up the wreckage and debris.
The collision was under investigation by the California Highway Patrol.
