A hiker experiencing a medical condition had to be hoisted from a remote area in the mountains above Santa Barbara on Sunday.

At approximately 2:50 p.m., personnel from the Santa Barbara County Fire Department along with the Santa Barbara Search and Rescue team and Santa Barbara City Fire Department responded to the incident on the Tunnel Road Trail, county fire Capt. Mike Gray said.

A man in his 20s reported a medical complaint that prompted initiation of a rescue.

County Air Support Unit personnel employed a hoist operation to lift the hiker into Helicopter 308 to be transported from the remote location.

The ailing hiker was taken to the Santa Barbara Airport but declined additional medical care, according to emergency dispatch reports.
