The Hillside residential facility in Santa Barbara is shining a light on the abilities of its residents with its fourth annual Shining Light on Abilities Holiday Lights and Decorations.

Through Dec. 31, lights and decorations will line Hillside’s driveway at 1235 Veronica Springs Road. The display includes a slideshow of Hillside residents sharing their abilities.

The neighborhood surrounding the home is known for its abundant individual home light displays during the holiday season, according to spokeswoman Maureen McFadden, making Hillside another great spot for holiday light visits.

The holiday lights loop is also a stop along the Rock Star Trolley tours, Santa Barbara Trolley tours and the Land Shark, McFadden said.

Hillside was founded as a nonprofit organization in 1945 and houses individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. In all, 59 residents ages 20 to 70 call Hillside home.

The home provides residential care, medical support and caregiving staff for all of its residents. Programs focus on what residents can accomplish, look at ways to eliminate obstacles, and seek opportunities.

“Hillside is more than lights and sleighbells,” McFadden said. “The holiday event is a chance for the community to get to know about Hillside. We hope to see lots of cars with people inside smiling, laughing, and singing holiday songs.”
