Indivisible Santa Barbara is calling on community members to participate locally in a nationwide protest against recent actions by the Trump administration, 10 a.m.-noon Saturday, Jan. 10 on upper State Street in Santa Barbara.
Participants will gather on the sidewalks on both sides of upper State Street between Hope Avenue and Hitchcock Way, then spread out along the sidewalk.
If possible, participants should bring protest signs expressing “opposition to the dangerous escalation of violence being waged by Trump’s forces against ordinary people worldwide,” the organization said.
Demonstrators are asked to bring (if possible) protest signs expressing opposition to the escalation of violence being waged by Trump’s forces against ordinary people worldwide, organizers said.
Participants will “join millions of Americans across the country to protest the Trump administration’s spread of militarized violence, from the Christmas bombing in Nigeria; the invasion of Venezuela; to the murder by an ICE agent of Renee Good in Minneapolis, and the kidnapping of our immigrant friends and neighbors across the nation, including from our own streets in Santa Barbara,” Indivisible Santa Barbara said.
“The death we witnessed Wednesday in Minneapolis is an echo of what we saw raining from the skies over Venezuela,” said Ian Paige, a member of Indivisible Santa Barbara’s steering committee.
“The violence being illegally waged by U.S. militarized forces at home and abroad is inextricably linked,” Paige said.
“Only we, the American people, can rise up in protest to save vulnerable people worldwide from the life and liberty threatened by Trump and the billionaires he serves,” Paige said.
All Indivisible Santa Barbara events adhere to a shared commitment to nonviolent protest and community safety, the organization said. Organizers are trained in de-escalation and are working closely with local partners to ensure peaceful and powerful actions nationwide, the group said.
Indivisible Santa Barbara is a nonprofit based in Santa Barbara that is part of the nationwide Indivisible movement.
