Jane F. Giddings (aka: Jane Forster, Jane Cambier, Jane Maynard, Jane Sturr) passed away on Aug. 4, 2023, in Danville, California. She was 102 years old; just three months short of turning 103.

Jane was born in Cleveland, Ohio, in November 1920. At the age of 10 she traveled around the world on a ship with her parents. From then on, she always enjoyed traveling.

When she was about 20, her family moved to California, where she attended Stanford University.

She met John Cambier after World War II. They moved to Orange City, Iowa, so John could run a Cadillac Chevrolet dealership. They had four sons John, Peter, Jeff and Jim.

In 1959, the family moved back to California, where they bought a house in the hills of Santa Barbara. In 1964, John passed away and Jane raised the boys from that point on.

Around 1971, Jane decided to move closer to Stanford to re-acquaint herself with old friends. Eventually, she met David Maynard who was a retired U.S. diplomat. They soon married.

They would often travel on a cruise ship for months at a time, where David would lecture, and Jane would enjoy visiting port cities and relaxing on the ship. They were married for about 12-15 years before David passed away on a trip to Ireland.

After a while, Jane met Hank Sturr, who was a retired submarine captain. They married and their combined large family met annually for the next 10 years to travel all around the world. Hank passed away in 1998.

Jane then moved to San Diego and met Don Giddings, who was a retired teacher and football coach from San Diego. They married and lived on top of a hill in a retirement village. Don passed away in 2011.

After her lifetime of traveling, Jane moved closer to her son Jim’s family in Danville. She moved to Brookdale Assisted Living in 2015.

Jane enjoyed playing golf and tennis and was active until she was about 80 years old. She is survived by her son Peter; three daughters-in-law; eight grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
