It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of my father Jesus Navarro Vazquez.
Jesus was born June 1, 1940, in Atotonilquillo, Jal, a small pueblo in Mexico, where his love for soccer truly began.
The passion for the sport was something that ran deep in our family, and from a young age, Jesus was a key player for many soccer teams, including the Santa Barbara Futbol Club.
His dedication didn’t stop on the field. After hanging up his cleats, Jesus devoted time to supporting and coaching his sons’ soccer teams via AYSO or the Boys Club. He also co-owned a team called Alas, which played every Sunday at Dwight Murphy field.
Beyond soccer, Jesus dedicated several decades to serving Santa Barbara City Hall, retiring in 2000 after several decades of honorable service.
On March 10, 2026, in Mexico, surrounded by some of his family, he departed this world and earned his own “Alas,” (the Spanish word for wings), leaving behind a legacy of love, strength and devotion that will resonate with everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.
Jesus led a life full of various roles, from husband and father to uncle and coach, but he was truly our best friend. He will be fondly remembered not just for his passion for soccer but for the warmth, humility and enthusiasm he shared with everyone around him.
Jesus is lovingly survived by his sister Carmen Guerrero (Vazquez); children Adriana (Vazquez) Valencia; sons Andres Vazquez, Mario Vazquez, and Jose de Jesus Vazquez; along with several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
A heartfelt thank you goes out to his nieces and nephews in Mexico who stood by him endlessly and never gave up on him. Your love and support meant the world not only to him but to his children.
We love you Papie, we’ll take it from here. You can rest now.
