There’s no mention of separation of church and state in our U.S. Constitution.
Yes, Thomas Jefferson and other statesmen had real concerns about our new government being involved in our rights in the formation of religious activity.
After all, historically they were escaping an autocratic form of government that forced The Church of England on its subjects.
What I’d prefer to discuss in this short essay is my personal faith and how it functions quite well with politics here in America.
As a teenager in Texas, I was blessed to have qualified teachers who were well-versed in the history of our state and our nation. They were also knowledgeable of how our state and national governments were established.
Thanks to their instruction, as a young man I developed a deep appreciation and faith in our local, state and U.S. government. My college professors reinforced what I had been taught while in high school.
My faith in our local, state and federal governments grew as I joined the Army and was soon deployed to Vietnam. I was committed to defend the principles of this great nation.
Upon returning stateside 18 months later, I remained confident in our government policies and those who were at the helm. In fact, I had more faith in our leaders than I considered God back then.
It wasn’t until I reached age 40 that I found myself turning toward the ways of Almighty God. Seeking the Truth became my priority for the first time in my life.
At the same time, trust in our government system waned and I knew that humankind was at fault. Moving forward, after accepting Christ Jesus as my Savior and Lord, my faith in God grew with leaps and bounds.
These days, I find myself disillusioned by many who represent us at all levels of government. I’m simply amazed at the corruption so prevalent and the audacity of some to abuse their positions for personal gain.
The days of the statesmen who would gladly serve their country without selfish motives seem to be few and far between.
What I hope for is a resurgence of Christian men and women who put God and Country first. We have no place for such corruption here in America.
Frankly, whether we’re a card-carrying Republican, Democrat, Independent, Libertarian or some smaller ideology, doesn’t really matter at all.
What we need to do is support those candidates who follow in Judeo-Christian principles upon which this nation was formed and do our small part in following our Constitution rather than supporting an ungodly platform.
God has given us a righteous direction and we need to be in tune to His American Experiment formed nearly 250 years ago.
Whether you have been blessed to be born here to U.S. citizens or have become one through the naturalization process, we have a God-given responsibility to defend our Constitution and stand up for the rights bestowed upon us.
God bless America!
