John Stanley Weymouth was born on June 5, 1943, to Eleanor and Ralph Weymouth in Fresno, California, where he was raised. John passed away on Dec. 30, 2025.
One of the highlights of his childhood was the birth of his younger brother Jim, when John was 10 years old. John deeply loved having a younger brother.
John earned the rank of Eagle Scout at the remarkably young age of 13, a distinction that reflected his early commitment to service and leadership.
Around this same time, John converted to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. His faith remained an important part of his life thereafter.
John later served a two-year mission for the Church in London, England, returning home with a red MG convertible.
John met Lucy Leonard while they were both attending Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah.
Lucy’s apartment number was 67, and John’s BYU football jersey number was also 67, which became a special family number. John remained a devoted BYU fan throughout his life and served for many years as a fundraiser for the university.
John and Lucy were married and had four sons together, after first losing a daughter who was stillborn. Their sons are David, John, Paul and Mark.
John Jr. (“Johnny”) was born on his father’s birthday and proudly bears his name, although John often joked that Johnny had been adopted from the zoo.
After earning his MBA from BYU, John began his career as a stockbroker and moved back to California. In 1972, his company relocated him from Sacramento to Santa Barbara, where he lived most of his life, and where he and Lucy raised their family.
Professionally, John was known for his unwavering integrity, which he valued above all else in his career. He loved to laugh and was well known for his pranks on friends and family.
Many will remember John for his quiet generosity and his willingness to serve others without seeking recognition.
John was a devoted husband to Lucy. After a long battle with pulmonary fibrosis, Lucy passed away in 2018. John lovingly served as her primary caregiver during the final two years of her life.
In 2019, John met Sue Boyle of the St. George, Utah, area. After just a few months of dating, they were married on Sue’s birthday.
John and Sue shared five happy years together before John developed Alzheimer’s disease in early 2024, eventually requiring assisted living later that year. Sue brought great joy and happiness into John’s life, and he loved her dearly.
John is survived by his brother James Weymouth; sons David, John, Paul, and Mark and his wife Susan Weymouth. He is also survived by 15 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 9:30 a.m. Monday, Jan. 12 with a viewing and a memorial service at 11 a.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 478 Cambridge Drive, Goleta.
