UCSB Arts & Lectures presents roots rockin’ southern sisters Larkin Poe, 7 p.m. Sunday, April 27 at the Arlington Theatre in Santa Barbara.

Special guest Parker Millsap will open the concert.

“With serious slide guitar chops and Southern rock swagger, Georgia-bred multi-instrumentalist sisters Rebecca and Megan Lovell hit audiences right in the heart,” according to Arts & Lecture. “The blazingly self-assured music on their 2023 album ‘Blood Harmony’ got them the Grammy Award for Best Contemporary Blues Album.

“Tracing their family lineage back to distant relative Edgar Allan Poe gave Larkin Poe its name. Imbuing their songs with soulful sensitivity and thrilling ferocity, Larkin Poe is an essential force shaping the identity of Southern rock for a new century.”

The group’s latest album “Bloom,” released in January, marks an evolution in Larkin Poe’s creative journey, Arts & Lecture said.

All the songs came from collaborations between Megan, Rebecca and co-producer Tyler Bryant, reflecting a synergy that extends beyond mere musical partnership.

“‘Bloom’ is about finding oneself amidst the noise of the world, about wholeheartedly embracing the flaws and idiosyncrasies that make us real,” said Rebecca Lovell.

In “Bloom,” the Lovell sisters place a spotlight on storytelling with track unfolds like a chapter in a book.

“Songwriting takes center stage with this record; the lyrics hit home in a real way,” Rebecca Lovell said.

The group’s influences from ’70s Southern rock are woven into a modern context that feels both nostalgic and fresh. The album’s lead single “Bluephoria” captures the essence of Larkin Poe’s exploration.

“It’s a rock ’n’ roll rumination on the duality of the human experience, where suffering and joy intertwine to create meaning,” Rebecca said.

Born and raised in Purcell, Oklahoma, Parker Millsap learned early on how to express gratitude through song while playing gospel in the church band.

Now a singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist he plays blues, country, rock, and folk music. His albums include “Parker Millsap” (2014) and “The Very Last Day” (2016), “Be Here Instead” (2021), and “Wilderness Within You” (2023).

Tickets to Larkin Poe are $42-$107, general public; $24.50, UCSB students with current student ID.
