Rincon Point welcomed some of the best surfers in the area for the 44th annual Channel Islands Surfboards Rincon Classic this past weekend, and they put on quite the show.
From the 10-and-under division to the highly competitive Rincon Brewery Professional Invitational, boys and girls of all ages and skill levels shined in the event produced by Surf Happens and presented by Merrick Lager.
The Rincon Brewery Pro Invite, which featured some of the best professional surfers in the area, featured a repeat champion this year as Dimitri Poulos defended his title with a score of 15.14 in the finals.
While it is Poulos’ second straight Rincon Brewery Pro Invite title, it is his third total to make him the first Ventura surfer to win three championships.

Aside from the professional event of the weekend, there were 12 different champions crowned in 12 different heats and divisions on the final day of competition on Sunday.
Brandon Benjamin captured first place in the Open Men’s division for the second straight year with a score of 7.27, while the duo of Marley Sapp and Jack Zoltan tied for second place at 6.87.
In the Open Women’s division, Makena Burke finished atop the podium with her score of 15.70 and Eliose Grewe’s score of 10.70 earned her second place.
Looking up an age division, Pete Mussio took home the gold in the Masters 35-and-over division at 17.30, finishing ahead of second-place Dennis Rizzo at 13.17.

Brian Switzer won the Grand Masters 45-and-over division after totaling 16.24 points to edge out the 13.90 points from Ryan Moore.
In the Legends 55-and-over division, Andrew Jakubowski proved that he still had plenty left in the tank with a first-place showing with 14 total points. Tom Dillan took second place with a score of 10.57.
Steve Hanson earned the Super Legends 55-and-over title with a score of 8.36 to beat out James McClintock, who came in second at 6.63.
In the eldest division of the weekend, Miranda Joseph was crowned the winner of the Lady Legends 65-and-over event. She ended with a score of 12.93 to beat out the 9.34 tally of second-place Lynn Cochrane.

The new age of surfers was well represented as well, and Christopher Burke won the youngest division of the weekend in the 10-and-under event. Burke’s score of 12.33 narrowly beat out the 12.04 mark of Clive Unander.
Meanwhile, Alex Poulos and Jack Keet were named co-winners of the 12-and-under Gremlins division by tying with a score of 11.06 in the finals.
In the 14-and-under Boys Division, Henry Goldstein and Koby Wachter finished back-to-back in first and second place, respectively, at 11.70 and 11.13 total points.

Beckett Mechtenberg placed first in the 17 and Under Juniors Division with a final heat score of 11, and Tate Kimball’s score of 10.17 was good for second.
The 17-and-under Wahines division rounded out the non-adult competition, and Mady Stone rounded out the winners with her score of 13.96 to finish ahead of Eloise Grewe at 12.17.
