Local players left their mark on the 88th annual Santa Barbara Open Tennis Tournament over the past two weekends at local tennis courts.
118 players from across the country competed in seven different divisions at Knowlwood Tennis Club, the Santa Barbara Tennis Club, Westmont College and Santa Barbara High.
Sixteen of the 22 finalists reside in the Santa Barbara area, taking home a portion of the record $10,000 of total prize money. The tournament was sponsored by Manchester Capital Management.

In the Men’s Singles championship, Santa Barbara’s Stefan Menichella took down Adam Large of Fullerton.
On the Women’s side, UCSB tennis alum Shakhnoza Khatamova earned the championship win over current Gaucho Marie Weissheim.
In doubles action, Santa Barbara’s Matt Berry and San Francisco’s Ryder Jackson teamed up to pull out the Men’s Doubles victory over Garrett Patton (Santa Barbara) and Brendan McClain (Ventura).
UCSB tennis duo Lucy Lu and Marie Weissheim came together to win the Women’s Doubles title over the Santa Barbara High sister duo of Caitlyn and Nicole Buist.
Khatamova and Patton captured the championship of the Mixed Doubles division after defeating Delilah Rizvi (Newbury Park) and Ilya Bolotsky (Camarillo).
Panorama City’s Karen Marangozyan claimed the Men’s 40 & Over Singles title by defeating Santa Barbara’s Ed Lazarus.
However, Lazarus bounced back after pairing up with Neil Levinson to take down Ashley Fickel and Matt Pond in an all-local Men’s 40 & Over Doubles championship match.
