The city of Lompoc will formally introduce the Permit Ready Accessory Dwelling Unit (PRADU) initiative to the Planning Commission on July 9. The program will then be presented to the City Council on Aug. 5.
The presentations will provide an overview of the PRADU program, the timeline of the initiative, and ways for residents to stay involved in the process.
The development of a PRADU program is intended to further facilitate Accessory Dwelling Unit (ADU) construction.
As required by the California Department of Housing and Community Development, the Lompoc City Council recently adopted the 6th Cycle Housing Element (2023-31) that includes Policy H-1.18 and Implementation Program H-A.14, committing the city to developing and implementing a PRADU program by end of 2025.
The PRADU program will expedite the permitting and construction of housing, resulting in additional much-needed housing units in areas already planned for growth, the city said.
The PRADU program will also encourage users unfamiliar with the construction and permitting process to construct ADUs; shorten permitting timelines; and increase housing options in the city.
Community members can visit the Department of Housing and Community Development’s website for further information and resources regarding ADUs. More information can be found on the city’s website.
