Lompoc police have released the name of the 37-year-old man killed over the weekend in the city’s first homicide of 2022.

Maurilio Delacruz of Lompoc was the person who was fatally wounded in a shooting early Saturday morning, Sgt. Sergio Arias said Monday. 

At approximately 12:50  a.m., officers and other emergency personnel responded to the 1000 block of North H Street for a report of a shooting, police said. 

Officers located the victim, who had suffered multiple gunshot wounds. 

After police and medics rendered aid, Delacruz was transferred to a local trauma center but died due to his injuries, police said.

The investigation into his death was continuing on Monday, and police had not made any arrests or revealed any possible motive.

A GoFundMe page, “Help Lay to Rest Maurilio De La Cruz,” available by clicking here, to help the victim’s family with funeral expenses had raised more than $5,300 toward the $10,000 goal as of Monday. 

“Maurilio was a loved father, son, sibling, family member, and friend,” according to the posting. “Our loved one’s life was unexpectedly cut short. It is with immense sadness that we lay Mauri to rest. All donations will be used towards Maurilio’s funeral expenses. Thank you for supporting this loving family in their time of need.”
