Families seeking an innovative and nurturing learning environment for their children have two opportunities to apply for enrollment at Goleta Family School (GFS) for Fall 2026, the school has announced.

The first Parent Info Night will be 6-8 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 22 at Foothill Elementary School. Families can learn more about the Family School education option before the upcoming lottery deadline Feb. 28. Goleta Family School is at Foothill Elementary School.

GFS, a multi-age, alternative K-6 program within the Goleta Union School District, is open to all families in the district. Admission is determined by a lottery process.

“The school is distinguished by its emphasis on creative expression, independent thinking, cooperative social skills, and outdoor education, fostering an enriching and dynamic learning experience for students,” the district said.

“Goleta Family School has been a place where my kids are truly seen, heard and valued, no matter their background,” said Gloria Sanchez Arreola, parent of a current sixth-grader.

“With a focus on kindness, community, and child-led inquiry, together our teachers and families create an environment where curiosity and creativity thrive, and every child and family can find a sense of belonging,” she said.

At the Jan. 22 Parent Info Night, families will hear from current parents and educators about GFS’s unique approach to education. Spanish translators will be available to ensure accessibility for all attendees.

There will be a campus tour, 9 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 27. In order to enter the lottery, both a Parent Info Night and a tour must be attended.

“The all-school campout is my favorite part of the year,” said Anker Rogstad, a GFS fourth-grader. “We get to sleep in tents, explore nature, and do fun workshops with our friends, teachers, and parent chaperones. I love performing skits around the campfire.”

A second Parent Info Night is offered Wednesday, Feb. 18, and a campus tour, Thursday Feb. 26. While not required, RSVPs are encouraged.
