A Newport Beach man was arrested in Montecito Tuesday night after Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s deputies stopped a recreational vehicle and discovered a kidnapping in progress, spokesperson Raquel Zick said.
Matthew Alex Parsadayan, 34, is accused of kidnapping a woman and her infant child. He was arrested and booked at the Main Jail on $1 million bail on suspicion of kidnapping, discharge of a firearm, use of force, child cruelty, and kidnapping of a child under 14.
The arrest occurred on Tuesday at 10:43 p.m. when deputies pulled over an RV driving on Highway 101 with its pop-out sections extended, Zick said. The deputies discovered an ongoing domestic dispute inside the vehicle.
Parsadayan was forcing a woman, who he was dating, to drive to Orange County and had threatened her with two knives, according to Zick. He also fired a handgun outside of the RV window.
“During a search of the RV, a Glock pistol was found along with a spent 9mm casing,” she said.
The woman was attempting to follow his commands when deputies pulled the vehicle over, near San Ysidro Road, Zick said.
Zick said Parsadayan was taken into custody without incident. The woman and her baby did not ask for medical treatment, she added.
