A man suspected of brandishing a weapon later allegedly led police officers in a pursuit that traveled from Santa Barbara to Carpinteria on Sunday afternoon before he was taken into custody an hour later.
Shortly after 4 p.m., the Santa Barbara Police Communications Center received a call regarding a brandishing of a firearm near the intersection of Olive and Ortega streets, Lt. Antonio Montojo of the Santa Barbara Police Department said Sunday night.
The victim provided dispatchers with details abut the suspect’s vehicle, which officers located and attempted to stop.
However, the driver of the vehicle failed to yield, and a pursuit ensued from Santa Barbara city streets and onto southbound Highway 101, Montojo said.
For public safety concerns, the pursuit was discontinued near Carpinteria, Montojo added.
Approximately an hour later, an officer located the same vehicle parked but unoccupied near 1300 Kowalski Ave.
A Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office Air Support Unit helicopter assisted from above.
The Santa Barbara Police Communications Center received information about a subject matching the description of the outstanding suspect in the area and officers located the subject, Montojo said.
Eri Arzate, 38, was arrested in connection with multiple felony and misdemeanor crimes.
Arzate was later booked into Santa Barbara County Jail on suspicion of criminal threats, brandishing of a firearm, assault on an officer and evading, along with misdemeanors for driving on a suspended license and prohibited from possessing tear gas.
