A man was seriously injured early Saturday in an altercation near Stearns Wharf in Santa Barbara, according to the Santa Barbara Police Department.

Shortly after 1 a.m., officers were flagged down by the victim in the area of State Street and Cabrillo Boulevard, police Commander Kasi Corbett said.

“Preliminary investigation indicates that this may have been a dispute between two individuals that may be unhoused,” Corbett told Noozhawk. “However, that has yet to be confirmed.”

The victim, whose name was not released, suffered a major facial laceration, Corbett said.

He was taken by AMR ambulance to Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital, where he was listed in critical but stable condition.

Investigation into the incident was continuing, Corbett said, and “no further information is available at this time.”

No arrests had been made as of midday Saturday, she added.
