Dignity Health Marian Regional Medical Center has achieved accreditation by the American College of Emergency Physicians (ACEP) Geriatric Emergency Department Accreditation Program (GEDA).

The GEDA recognizes Marian Regional Medical Center’s commitment to providing high-quality, specialized emergency care for older adults, the medical center said.
The Level Three certification ensures the hospital’s emergency department meets the interdisciplinary geriatric standards set forth by ACEP, including accessibility requirements and specialized training for the medical staff.
“This achievement is a reflection of the hard work and dedication of our entire team,” said Sue Andersen, president/CEO of Marian Regional Medical Center. “We are grateful for the opportunity to serve our community and to be recognized as a leader in geriatric emergency care.”
With nearly 17% of Santa Barbara County residents ages 65 and older, as reported by the U.S. Census, and this demographic steadily increasing, the demand for exceptional geriatric emergency care has become increasingly critical, the medical center said.
“We take immense pride in our team’s accomplishment. This accreditation underscores our emergency department’s readiness and expertise in addressing the distinct requirements of older adults,” said Terrance McGovern, DO, Emergency Department director at Marian Regional Medical Center.
“From specialized equipment and tailored protocols to our dedicated staff with advanced geriatric training, our commitment remains unwavering to provide our elderly patients with the compassionate and effective care they rightfully deserve,” he said.
GEDA accreditation is not just a symbolic recognition, Marian Medical Center said. It signifies the hard work and concrete steps Marian’s Emergency team has taken toward providing high-quality geriatric care.
