Authorities have released the name of the Nipomo woman struck and killed by a vehicle whose driver left the scene in northwest Santa Maria this weekend.
The victim was Maria Juarez Moreno, 46, according to Raquel Zick, spokeswoman for the Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office Coroner’s Bureau.
Juarez Moreno was pronounced dead at the scene near the intersection of Bunny Avenue and Blosser Road, according to Santa Maria police officers.
Just before midnight Saturday, emergency personnel from the Santa Maria Fire Department also responded and rendered aid to Juarez Moreno.
The driver fled the scene immediately following the collision, police said.
However, officers later located the suspect’s vehicle and arrested a 30-year-old Santa Maria man, whose name has not been released.
He was booked into the Santa Barbara County Jail on multiple felony charges.
Anyone who has information regarding the incident can contact Officer Nick Barton at 805.928.3781, ext.1358.
The Nipomo woman was one of two people killed near the intersection of Blosser and Bunny over the weekend.
On Sunday night, a bicycle was found in the roadway while a man in his 50s was located dead nearby. The driver involved in that fatal crash also fled the area.
The name of bicyclist who died will be released after notification of family members.
