Patsy Ann Green “Pat” came to live in Lompoc with her husband Sheldon and three daughters in 1963. They settled down in a house on Daisy Street and made it their home for the rest of their lives. They were married for nearly 70 years.
Pat passed away peacefully on March 26, 2024. Her husband preceded her in 2021.
Pat was born Sept. 3, 1933 to Roscoe and Allene Gulick. They lived in a small farmhouse near Cleo Springs, Oklahoma. She was raised with her two younger brothers Billy Joe and John Dean, and an older half-brother Warren Powell who came for visits.
It was a home filled with love, laughter, and a considerable amount of mischief, thanks to all those brothers.
In high school, Pat played on the girls’ basketball team and was a cheerleader. Sheldon was on the football team, and they soon became high school sweethearts. They loved to jitterbug at the local dances. They married in 1951.
Growing weary of mid-western winters, in 1961 they bundled their three girls up and headed for the West Coast.
They led an active lifestyle. When the couple first moved to California they became certified scuba divers; they were avid snow skiers; and a bicycling passion led them to tour with friends throughout England.
They both had their pilot’s license and enjoyed many fly-ins in the U.S. and in Mexico vacationing with other pilots.
They went on wine tours with a Porsche club, and celebrated an anniversary with a hot air balloon ride in New Mexico. Later in life, they took up RV-ing and saw much of the country with their beloved little dachshund.
After earning an AA degree at Allan Hancock, Pat received a Teacher’s Credential then changed course and took on secretarial work at the base where she remained until she retired.
She went on to open and manage a successful party shop in Santa Ynez and later, with her daughter Denise Chavoya, as co-owner and manager, one in Lompoc as well.
She was active in her community, too. Pat and Sheldon were regulars at church and attended bible study each week. She helped prepare communion with two other ladies for years. She also delivered Meals on Wheels faithfully for 20 years.
Pat was good with crafts and had various hobbies. She learned silversmithing and made beautiful turquoise and silver jewelry. She was an expert seamstress.
All of this she did while being a great homemaker.
Pat was kind, caring, reliable and honest. She raised three daughters and helped raise a couple grandkids, too. She was quiet spoken but firm. She had a warm smile and a good sense of humor.
Pat lived to be 90 years old. Her family has grown to a great many, and she had a tender spot for them all. They will remember the values she sought to instill and the gentle spirit that imparted them.
She was predeceased by her parents, brothers, an aunt who was like a sister to her, husband Sheldon, and two daughters Linda Dyer, and Denise Chavoya, also a step granddaughter, Tiffani Villa.
She is survived by her daughter Terri Gorham and husband Doug; two former sons-in-law John Dyer and Trini Chavoya; her grandchildren Lisa Dyer, Michael Dyer, step grandson Trini Chavoya Jr., Jennifer Moreno, Brandon Chavoya, Aaron Dionne, and Ryan Dionne; along with many great grandchildren and a few great-great grandchildren.
Pat will be interred alongside her husband and among other family in the Pleasant View Cemetery in Oklahoma. Donations in her name may be made to World Vision at https://mycause.worldvision.org/campaign/Pat-Green-Memorial.
