One person was killed Saturday night in a single-vehicle crash in the mountains above Goleta, according to the Santa Barbara County Fire Department.

Emergency dispatchers received an automated notification shortly after 9:30 p.m. from a 2025 Toyota Tacoma pickup of a possible crash on West Camino Cielo, said fire Capt. Mike Gray.

Firefighters, the California Highway Patrol and other first-responders drove about seven miles beyond the pavement’s end, where they located the truck about 300 feet down the slope, Gray said.

No one was in the vehicle, but a search of the area found the body of a middle-aged man in steep, vegetated terrain, Gray said.

A subsequent search with the aid of a drone determined there were no other victims, he added.

The victim’s name was not released pending notification of relatives.

The crash was under investigation by the CHP.
