Carpinteria High baseball cruised to an 11-1 rout of Santa Clara in its season opener on Saturday in Oxnard.
“It felt like a Spring Training game, as we were just excited to get our reps at the plate and on the hill,” Carpinteria High head coach Patrick Cooney said. “We saw some encouraging signs and progress within the game.
“The players will keep a process based approach and continue improving. It was just great to be out there doing our thing.”
Gabe Martinez, Jonah Hernandez and Sam Medel each threw two innings for the Warriors. Martinez and Hernandez each struck out four batters, while Medel tallied three punch outs. Dallas Bartholic rounded out the win with a two-strikeout final frame.
Hernandez and Brayden Real had monster days at the plate with six hits apiece, with Hernandez belting a homer along the way.
Meanwhile, Micah Smith went 5-for-5 and the trio of Medel, Martinez and Bartholic tallied four hits apiece. Charlotte Cooney reached base via a walk four times and came around to score three runs.
Carpinteria High will play host to Coastal Christian on Wednesday for its home opener.
