Santa Barbara High baseball fell to Oxnard High by a score of 5-3 on Friday at Eddie Mathews Field in Santa Barbara.
After Oxnard scored first in the opening frame, the Dons knotted the game at 1-1 in the bottom of the third on an RBI single by Milo Winckler.
Santa Barbara High jumped out in front in the bottom of the fourth with an RBI squeeze bunt by James King and a Yellow Jacket error to go up 3-1.
However, Oxnard responded with a big four-run inning in the fifth and shut down the Dons’ offense from there, rolling to the 5-3 win.
Tosh Whitworth got the start for Santa Barbara High, while Emiliano Ramirez took over and did not allow an earned run in three innings of work.
The Dons are now 5-7 overall and 3-5 in league play heading into Spring Break.
Hueneme 13, Carpinteria High 1
The Warriors struggled to keep up with Hueneme in a Citrus Coast League loss on Friday.
After Carpinteria stranded the bases loaded in the top of the first, Hueneme erupted for 11 runs in the bottom half to immediately pull away. The Vikings never looked back en route to the win.
Gabe Martinez roped an RBI triple to score Micah Smith and account for the Warriors’ lone run of the day.
“It was an incredible barrage of hits paired with some really good fortune from the Vikings,” Carpinteria High head coach Pat Cooney said. “They were able to hit the ball and find openings whether we threw a good pitch or not.
“Once they had the big lead, there was not much we could do besides look for little victories and small positives. Hueneme is a really good team with a senior at every position. We have to believe that it’s a big positive that after the 1st inning, it was a 2-1 ballgame.”
The Warriors will be on the road against Coastal Christian next Thursday.
