San Marcos boys golf captured a crosstown rivalry win over Dos Pueblos on Tuesday at Glen Annie Golf Course.
The Royals finished the day with a team score of 370, while the Chargers carded a 403 on the par-71 course.
Andy Keenan led a balanced San Marcos effort in which every golfer shot between 71 and 80. Keenan was the match medalist with his even-par 71.
The other Royal golfers were Axl Wedhammar (72), Austin Downing (73), Ethan Klawuhn (74) and Nate Duva (80).
“It’s great to have six guys that can all contribute at a high level on any given day,” San Marcos head coach Jeff Ashton said. “I think that is the biggest strength of our team.”
As for the Chargers, the duo of Parker Hickman and Coulter Jay led the way with their scores of 78.
They were joined by Orlando Ramirez-Gijon (82), Sam MacNaughton (85) and Colt Roberts (85).
“San Marcos always has a competitive team and this year they have some really good freshmen that have added some solid depth,” Dos Pueblos head coach Kevin Ahlers said. “It is always fun to play in these tense matches and wish SM the best of luck for the rest of the season.
“I want to applaud the Dos Pueblos players for grinding through their rounds and putting in their best effort. Although it wasn’t the exact result we were hoping for, the boys did have some solid play today and played their best without letting the bad shots ruin their rounds.”
San Marcos will compete in the Champions Invitational in Palm Springs next week. Meanwhile, Dos Pueblos will host Rio Mesa on Thursday at Sandpiper.
