Santa Barbara High boys golf opened its season with a non-league victory over Buena on Thursday at Santa Barbara Golf Club, a par 70 course.
The Dons combined for a team score of 396 to earn the comfortable win over the Bulldogs, who finished the day at 437.
“This was a good start to the season against a well-coached Buena squad,” Santa Barbara High head coach Ryan Throop said. “It was a warm winter day, and the golfers pushed through for the win.”
Alex Ortega was the top golfer for the Dons with his score of 73, and he was followed by Logan Gankas (78), Jack Alzina (81), Tyler Satterberg (82), Peyton Webley (82) and Dimitri Tar (87).
Buena’s Brandon Anderson earned match medalist honors after he finished with a one-under-par 69.
Santa Barbara High (1-0) will take on Oxnard at River Ridge Golf Course on Tuesday.
Dos Pueblos 418, Cabrillo 487
The Chargers (2-0) earned a non-league victory over Cabrillo at the Mission Club on Thursday.
Dos Pueblos’ Connor Nightingale led all golfers with his score of 81 to pick up medalist honors.
The rest of the Charger golfers were Coulter Jay (82), Colt Roberts (83), Parker Hickman (84) and Orlando Ramirez-Gijon (88).
“I was glad the way we persevered through the heat and tough wind, which was gusting at about 30 mph,” Dos Pueblos head coach Kevin Ahlers said.
