Cate boys tennis secured a 12-6 crosstown rivalry win over Santa Barbara High on Tuesday in Carpinteria.

“It’s still very early in the season, but the Rams looked promising against a strong non-league opponent after winning the CIF-SS Division 3 title last season,” Cate head coach Lance Kronberg said.

The Rams won eight of the nine singles points, with Kakeru Hirofuji and Bruce Li both going 3-0 while Andrew Jayich picked up a pair of wins. Hirofuji lost just three games on his way to the sweep.

Meanwhile, the Dons earned five victories in doubles action compared to Cate’s four.

The Rams’ duo of James He and Kenny Wang won two sets, while Graham Clinger/Alex Danely and Kaden Greene/Kendrick Suen each won one set.

Cate will be on the road against Dunn on Thursday.
