Laguna Blanca boys volleyball fell in the semifinals of the Chadwick Tournament to Bishop Montgomery on Saturday.
The Owls went 2-1 in pool play of the tournament before dropping the semifinal game.
“It was a great day filled with learning experiences for our whole team,” Laguna Blanca coach Tanner Stevens said. “We continue to develop and move people around trying out new lineups and are excited about where this season will go.”
Laguna Blanca began the day with back-to-back wins over Hawthorne Math & Science Academy and Whitney High before falling to Torrance.
The duo of Liam Knezevic and Soren Alldredge was a force at the net with 10 and seven blocks, respectively. Tyson Deveze led the Owls in kills with 26 while Baylor Wilson was effective as a setter and passer.
Laguna Blanca (3-1) will open up league action on the road on Tuesday against Dunn.
Carpinteria @ Pioneer Valley Tournament
The Warriors went on a strong run and finished as the runner-ups of the Pioneer Valley Tournament over the weekend.
On day one, Carpinteria opened the tournament with victories over Santa Maria (25-20, 25-17) and Righetti (18-25, 25-22, 15-11). Cabrillo bested the Warriors to end the day, 25-19, 25-23.
Carpinteria then went 2-1 on Saturday to round out pool play with a record of 3-3 and earn the No. 7 seed for the playoffs.
In the playoffs, the Warriors rattled off three straight wins over Mission Prep (25-11), Cabrillo (25-18) and Righetti (25-20). Carpinteria then fell to San Luis Obispo in the championship match, 25-15.
“Despite the loss, we are incredibly proud of how far we came, and the experience was well worth it,” Carpinteria head coach Favian Muralles said. “This tournament was a huge step forward for us, and we’re excited to carry this momentum into the rest of the season.”
Jesus Campuzano was strong on both ends for the Warriors with 32 kills and 85 digs on the weekend. Meanwhile, Rafael Montes tallied 21 kills and 21 blocks.
Alan Maya (17 kills, 111 digs, 15 aces) and Alariuziel Rodriguez (18 kills, 82 digs, 74 assists) were all over the court in the runner-up finish as well.
Loyola 3, San Marcos 0
The Royals suffered a road sweep to Loyola High in a non-league matchup on Saturday.
Loyola went on several strong runs throughout the game en route to the win, 25-11, 25-18, 25-8.
Matteo Burdick paced the San Marcos offensive attack with eight kills.
The Royals will cap off non-league action by welcoming Redondo Union to the Thunderhut on Tuesday at 6 p.m.
