San Marcos girls beach volleyball remained undefeated in Channel League play with a 5-0 sweep of Oxnard on Wednesday at Ridgway Courts.
The Royals shook up their lineup a bit in the win, beginning with Alina Stapf/Reese Paskin pairing up to win the No. 1 showdown in two sets, 21-16, 21-11.
San Marcos’ Paige Hoadley/Char Hastings then came together and cruised to a win at the twos, 21-5, 21-16. Meanwhile, Jeannie Johnson/Kelsey Rowe kept it rolling at court three, 21-15, 21-13.
“Stapf and Paskin continue to play well together, which is really good for the team,” San Marcos head coach Tim Loomer said. “Coming off a solid match against Ventura, Hoadley and Hastings maintained their high level of play. The ball control and serving of Johnson and Rowe were strengths for the pair.”
The No. 4 duo of Kelsie Helton/Rio Chesluk dominated their matchup, 21-11, 21-7, and Sam Macko/Maddie Pallad made it a sweep with a 21-10, 21-5 win at the fives.
“Having played together a fair amount last season, Chesluk and Helton clicked at the fours. Chesluk’s defense continues to be a key while Helton’s all-around consistency was laudable,” Loomer said.
“Juniors Sam Macko and Maddie Pallad played a particularly strong match at the fives, giving up only fifteen points across the two games. Pallad’s defense and serving were on point, while Macko had some nice attacks and set the ball with good consistency.”
San Marcos (12-1, 5-0 Channel League) will head across town to take on Dos Pueblos on Friday.
“Broadly speaking, the match provided the girls an opportunity to try some new twists and refine a few specific skills that will be needed as the team moves forward through the season,” Loomer said.

The Chargers went on the road and came away with a league sweep of the Spartans on Wednesday.
The No. 1 DP duo of Allie Ben-Yaacov/Char Welch earned a two-set win, 21-13, 21-19, and Ruby Dunlop/Gia Haas followed suit for the Chargers with a win at the twos, 21-12, 21-10.
Dos Pueblos’ Faith Harrison/Kyra Sample took care of business in straight sets as well in the No. 3 matchup, 21-15, 21-14. At court four, Athena Bardakos/Moana Martinez battled to a three-set victory, 21-12, 19-21, 15-6.
The final Charger pairing of Mia Taylor/Marley Wilcher completed the sweep with a 21-13, 21-8 win.
Dos Pueblos (5-5, 3-1 Channel League) will host crosstown rival San Marcos on Friday at 3 p.m.
