Linnea Clapinski powered Dos Pueblos girls lacrosse to a tight 11-9 victory over Channel League rival Cate on Tuesday at Scott O’Leary Stadium.
Clapinski scored eight of the Chargers’ 11 goals and effectively controlled the draw throughout the night to lead her team to a win.
After a battle of a first quarter that left the teams tied at 2-2, Cate scored early in the second to take the lead. However, the Chargers responded with three unanswered goals to take a 5-3 lead into halftime.
The Rams trimmed the deficit down to 7-6 with three straight goals at the end of the third, but Clapinski buried three goals in the fourth and the Dos Pueblos defense made key stops when necessary to earn the win.
Stella Lawler collected nine saves for the Chargers, while Emily Anton, Shelby Moccardini and Natasha Huie all scored for Dos Pueblos as well.
The Chargers (6-6, 4-0 Channel League) will host Nordhoff on Thursday at 6 p.m.
Boys Lacrosse
The Dos Pueblos boys lacrosse team dominated from the opening whistle and cruised to a 16-2 rout of Cate on Tuesday in Carpinteria.
The Chargers piled on six unanswered goals in the opening quarter and never looked back en route to the win, building up a 14-1 lead by halftime and holding on throughout the second half.
The Dos Pueblos offense was firing in the first half, as eight different Chargers found the back of the net.
“We were doing a lot of things well,” Dos Pueblos head coach Lucas Martinez said. “We were moving the ball with urgency and moving well off the ball. Defensively, we were pressuring out on the ball and helping back to the crease off ball.
“It was a really strong showing across the board today, and I was happy with how the boys competed.”
Austin Fauver’s four goals led the way for the Chargers, while Koa Birchim scored three goals and dished out three assists. Finn Nelson Walker, Wyatt Fauver and Maddox Schapiro scored twice, while Julian Lorkovic, Luke Patterson and Noah Vernon rounded out the scoring with one goal apiece.
Dos Pueblos (5-3, 3-1 Channel League) will be on the road against Saugus on Friday.
