Dos Pueblos softball struck early and never looked back en route to a 10-5 non-league win over Lompoc High on Thursday in Lompoc.
The sister duo of Juliana and Anastasia Brunner led the way for the Chargers (2-1), as Juliana went 4-for-5 with an RBI while Anastasia went 3-for-4 and drove in three runs in the victory.
Dos Pueblos put up three runs in the top of the first on a two-run single by Emily Morici and a Juliana Brunner RBI base hit. Lompoc answered with a run in the bottom half to make it 3-1.
After a scoreless second, the Chargers pulled away with five more runs in the third with the biggest swing coming on a bases-clearing double by Anastasia Brunner.
Lompoc rallied back with four runs in the bottom half to cut the deficit to 8-5, but Dos Pueblos shutout the Braves in the final four innings to pull out the road win.
Morici and Juliana Brunner shared the pitching duties for the Chargers, while their defense turned in a strong day behind them.
“I was proud of our girls for a host of reasons, not the least of which was our defense,” Dos Pueblos head coach Mike Gerken said. “We had a great relay from the fence to get a runner out at third and Anastasia made a great throw from center to Kacey Hurley who made a very athletic tag to get the out at home.
“We also turned a perfect 1-6-3 double play to end the game. Both Juliana and Anastasia had great days, but the whole team did a nice job of getting on base for them. We got a lot of key hits when we needed them.”
