San Marcos softball won its fifth straight with an 11-0 rout of Foothill Tech on Thursday in Santa Barbara.
After going up 1-0 in the first inning, the Royals dropped four runs in the second and six runs in the third to pull away for the eventual mercy-rule win.
Meanwhile, Lucy Dessert and Caroline Wang combined for the shutout, allowing just two hits and striking out five in five scoreless frames.
“Both Lucy and Caroline teamed up to pitch a great, concise game for us,” San Marcos head coach Emily Dietz said. “Our defense did a great job all around, making the plays and being ready in every situation.”
On the offensive end, Wang, Emilia Morales and Dulce Cardona tallied two hits apiece for San Marcos. Dessert helped herself out as well, driving in a pair of runs.
At the top of the lineup, Solana Sandoval scored three times, Isa Malarkey scored twice and Reese Large drove in and scored a run.
“Top to bottom, our lineup had a lot of solid contact and quality at bats,” Dietz said.
The Royals (5-2, 1-0 Channel League) will be on the road against Buena on Friday at 3 p.m.
Bishop Diego 15, Hueneme 15 (F/6)
The Cardinals and Vikings ended their slugfest in a tie after the game was called due to darkness.
“I’m very proud of the girls for their energy today and finding a way to score runs and make the routine plays,” Bishop Diego head coach MeLinda Matsumoto said.
Emily Lafond led the way offensively for the Cardinals, going 3-for-5 and driving in five runs.
“[Lafond] has been hitting the ball really hard right now and her versatility on defense has been important with a young team,” Matsumoto said.
Penny Carroll and Keke Flores each drove in two runs for Bishop Diego, while Flores scored three runs and Carroll scored twice.
Sarah Fellers went 2-for-3 with three runs scored, and both Pilar Alvarez and Natalie Rodriguez went 3-for-4 with two runs scored.
