San Marcos softball earned its first win of the young season with an 18-0 rout of Del Sol on Tuesday in Oxnard.

After the Royals scored three runs in the opening frame, their offense erupted for 10 runs in the second inning to pull away for good.

Dessert and Caroline Wang combined for the shutout in the circle. They each allowed one hit, with Wang striking out six in three innings and Dessert striking out three in two innings

The Royals will host Del Sol in a rematch on Thursday at 3 p.m.

Simi Valley 6, Dos Pueblos 3

The Chargers suffered their first loss of the season on the road against Simi Valley on Tuesday.

“We played a good team today,” Dos Pueblos head coach Mike Gerken said. “This was not the result we wanted, but we got to know a little more about who we are as a team, so that’s a positive.”

Simi Valley scored runs in the first and third innings to take a 2-0 lead, while Dos Pueblos was held off the board for the first four frames.

However, the Chargers came storming back with three runs in the top of the fifth as Zella Cassidy roped a two-run triple and came home to score on a wild pitch to take the lead.

Simi Valley swung back with four runs in the bottom half and held onto the lead from there en route to the win.

“We gave them a few extra chances with some errors and they took advantage. I was proud of our team’s late rally,” Gerken said.

Cassidy and Anastasia Brunner each went 2-for-4 for Dos Pueblos, while Emily Morici allowed five hits and struck out five in six innings of work.
