The San Marcos girls scored six runs in the top of the first inning on the way to an 18-1 Channel League win over Pacifica.
The game started with a leadoff double by Emma Foster, who then scored on a wild pitch. The Royals added another double by Kamilah Morales, a Kate Guerra single, three walks and a hit batter before the inning was over.
San Marcos added five runs in the third, one in the fourth and six in the fifth inning, totaling 15 hits.
On the mound, Guerra and Vienna Mochi combined for a four-hitter with four strikeouts for the Royals.
Foster was 4-for-5 on the day with two doubles, three runs scored and three RBI. Gigi Gritt and Morales were both 2-for-2, each with a double. Guerra was 2-for-3 with two RBI and Kayla Aguilar was 2-for-4 with a double and three RBI.
The big win improves the Royals to 4-5 in league play and 8-8 overall. They play Chaminade and Atascadero in the Best of the West tournament in Santa Maria Thursday.
Carpinteria 17, Channel Islands 2
Carpinteria junior Amarisse Camargo had five RBI including a second-inning grand slam to pace the Warriors over host Channel Islands in a Citrus Coast League Tuesday.
Alexiana Jaimes added a three-run home run in the third inning for Carpinteria.
“Both players have been struggling from the plate, so this was huge for them to get back on track,” Warriors coach Matt Mora said.
Carpinteria had 12 hits on the day, with sophomores Cassandra Vergara and Caden Lemere and Junior Bella Velasquez managing multiple hits.
“I’m really impressed with how these three players showed up today,” Mora said. “Lemere has been struggling at the plate this season, so when she was up to bat with bases loaded and 1 out, I called a squeeze bunt to third and she executed perfectly, scoring the run and all runners safe.”
Junior Ashlee Mora was in the circle for the Warriors, allowing two runs on eight hits, striking out two and walking zero.
“This was one of Mora’s best games of the year in the circle,” Mora said. “She pitched all five innings, only throwing 63 pitches with 44 strikes.”
The Warriors face Hueneme at home Thursday and travel to Nordhoff Friday for league games.
