Carpinteria High track & field continued its strong start to the season with a Citrus Coast league sweep of Hueneme on the road on Thursday.

The Warrior girls improved to 5-0 overall and 4-0 in league action with a 119-15 win, while the boys team won 76-60 to advance to 4-1 overall and 3-1 against league opponents.

Vivian Huskins broke her own school record in the 100-meter race, crossing the finish line in 12.52 seconds. Meanwhile, Kaydance Gardner led a sweep in the 400-meter with a time of 1:01.92, with Giarys Gomez (1:03.98) and Isla Moore (1:04.09) taking second and third, respectively.

The Carpinteria High girls won every single field event, with Marely Avalos leading the charge with victories in the shot put (30-8.5) and discus (92-4).

Callie Labistour won the long jump at 14-9.25, Ayla Soicher won the triple jump at 27-6.5, Hunter Stovall and Ellie Roberts tied for first in the pole vault with jumps of 5-6, and Natalia Andrade came out on top in the high jump at 4-2.

Meanwhile, Halleh Gahan and Izzy Scott placed first and second, respectively, in both the 100 hurdles and 300 hurdles. Caroline Cooney won the 200-meter, and Jacqueline Guadian rounded out the individuals with a first-place finish in the 3,200-meter.

The Warrior girls also won the 4×100 and 4×400 relay teams with times of 51.80 seconds and 4:27.19, respectively.

On the boys side, Carpinteria High found its advantage in the technical events, outscoring Hueneme 57-15 in the hurdles and field events.

Eli Perez led a sweep of the throws, taking first place in both the shot put (40-11.25) and discus (120-3). Meanwhile, Josiah Gonzalez won the high jump with a 5-4 clearance and Jeremy Haines’ 10-foot clearance in the pole vault was good for first.

Isaac Sanchez picked up wins in both the hurdle races, while Max Soto battled to first place in both the 1,600-meter and 3,200-meter races. Jeshua Magana placed second in the 100-meter race.

The boys had a very satisfying day. We stepped up when and where we needed to,” Carpinteria High head coach Van Latham said. “We beat Hueneme by a larger margin than we had expected. The girls continued their great start to the season with another dominant performance.”

Dos Pueblos vs. Rio Mesa

The Chargers earned a sweep of Rio Mesa in a Channel League meet on Thursday in Oxnard.

The Dos Pueblos girls came out on top by a score of 68-55, while the boys squad battled to a 63-54 victory.

The Chargers will host Pacifica and Ventura for another league meet next Wednesday at 3 p.m.
