A red rose atop a headstone

Our loving father Roger Cass sadly passed away at home on Dec. 10, 2025, after a long journey with Parkinson’s disease, and our lives will never be the same.

Born in Yorkshire, England, on Jan. 13, 1939, Roger was the only child of Ruby Oxtoby and Ronald Cass, an RAF pilot who was killed during War II when Roger was only 5.

Roger didn’t have an easy childhood, but with hard work and determination went on to graduate from Cambridge University.

He met his loving wife Jean 64 years ago at a college dance. They emigrated to Canada, then to California, and created a beautiful life together, raising their family of six children near Crane School in Montecito.

Roger was a hands-on dad, who started his own business working from home to spend more time with his family. He worked hard and succeeded in providing a beautiful life for them.

A true lifetime soccer fan of his home team Hull City Tigers, Roger went on to coach the Santa Barbara Gladiator’s youth soccer team and play on the local men’s team. His players were part of his extended family, and if a player needed cleats but couldn’t afford them, Roger bought them.

Our lives were filled with soccer parties held at our home, and hosting international travel teams. Roger was also the president of Southern Union Soccer.

Roger was a kind, loving, genuine, intelligent, generous, sentimental man. He was a great dancer with a love of music, which he passed on to his children. He never failed to give them a hug and a kiss when saying hello or goodbye, or express his thanks for all you did for him.

Roger and his wife were devoted life partners with Jean taking care of him to the very end. When sitting together on the couch, they were always seen lovingly holding hands.

We will miss Roger deeply, and keep him forever in our hearts.

A service will be held at 2:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 9 at the Santa Barbara Cemetery chapel, followed by a gathering to share memories of Roger, 4:30-7:30 p.m. upstairs at Rusty’s Pizza, 232 W. Carrillo St., Santa Barbara. Friends of Roger are invited to attend both.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Parkinson’s Foundation or your local Humane Society in honor of Roger and all the dogs he rescued in his lifetime.
