With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Ronald Warren Ellis, affectionately known as Ronnie, who left us on Nov. 23, 2024.
Born on April 17, 1970 in Santa Barbara, he was the youngest of three sons born to Richard and Joyce Rance Ellis.
Ronnie infused a unique spark into his family dynamic early, showing his protective nature when his sister was born five years later. His wish to take his sister to school began a lifelong role as a caring older brother.
The Ellis family eventually moved to San Jose, California, where Ronnie entered middle school and graduated from Overfelt High School. He discovered his passion for art, comedy and theater, captivating friends and family with his quick wit and playful pranks.
Ronnie was known for his enthusiasm in spirited political discussions, engaging those around him with his insights and humor.
As a young man, Ronnie returned to Santa Barbara and devoted his life to Christ at Bethel C.O.G.I.C., guided by the compassionate Rev. George Brooks Jr. His educational journey continued at Santa Barbara City College, where he met Tippie Quillopo, the love of his life.
Their friendship blossomed into a beautiful marriage, and they welcomed two wonderful children into the world Ronald Albert Ellis and LaTeasha Joyce Ellis.
Taking a courageous step, the Ellis family relocated to Dallas, Texas, where Ronnie became a highly skilled diesel truck mechanic. They celebrated many milestones, including the purchase of their first family home and the arrival of their beloved granddaughter Elizabeth Ellis.
While life took unexpected turns with Ronnie and Tippie’s divorce, they maintained a positive co-parenting relationship, demonstrating mutual respect, and support for their children.
Throughout life’s challenges, Ronnie’s love, humor and resilience shined through, allowing him to navigate challenging times gracefully and with dignity.
In his later years, Ronnie faced health challenges that brought him back to Santa Barbara. Surrounded by the love of family and friends, he passed away peacefully, leaving behind a legacy filled with laughter, love, and cherished memories.
Ronnie was preceded in death by his father Richard Ellis Sr.; brother Robert Neal Ellis; nephew Milik Ellis; and his daughter LaTeasha Joyce Ellis.
He is survived by his mother Joyce Rance; brother Richard Ellis Jr.; sister Tanisha Harris; son Ronald Albert Ellis; granddaughter Elizabeth Ellis; his former spouse Tippie; and a loving circle of relatives and friends who hold him dear in their hearts.
In honor of Ronnie’s life, family and friends will gather for a Day of Remembrance on April 17, officiated by Rev. George Brooks Jr.
The family of Ronald Warren Ellis extends heartfelt gratitude for the kind deeds and comforting expressions of sympathy shared during this time of bereavement.
