The San Marcos boys and girls swimmers swept Rio Mesa in a Channel League meet Friday, with the girls improving to 5-0 on the season and the boys to 4-1.

 The boys had a standout 400 freestyle relay at the end of the meet, with Alexi Stapf, Ben Caputo, Nic Prentice, and Jaren Depew finishing in a total time of 3:23.64. 

Ben Caputo (2:12.38) and Franklin Jaramilla (2:12.61) finished first and second the 200 IM.

The team of Luke Burns, Alden Klein, Pierce Rybicek and Jael Sancehz took first in 200 free relay, pulling ahead of Rio Mesa with a time of 1:41.36.

For the Royals girls, Taylor Steelman (100 butterfly, 100 backstroke), Sierra Tallman (200 freestyle and 100 breaststroke) and Elaia Hamilton (50 and 100 freestyle) were double-event winners.

“On the girls side, there was a lot of developing,” coach Chuckie Roth said. “Freshman Sophie Yonker had a great 100 free, and Freshman Lily Gallardo was able to place in both the 200 IM, second, and 100 breast, third. Senior Madi Haaland-Ford swam a best time in the 100 back. Senior Stanford-bound Regan McEachen swam a great 500, while freshman Bethany King won the 500 free event.”

Makenna Stretz won the 200 IM for San Marcos.

Dos Pueblos vs. Santa Barbara

Dos Pueblos swept the boys and girls team competitions over Santa Barbara on the Chargers’ Senior Meet.

The event honored Dos Pueblos seniors Cooper Costello, Nikko Carrillo, Johnny Bish, Ava Bennet, Emma Gilbert, Athena Wigo, Dakota Torrijos, Tru Uradnicek, and Brynn Graham.

Seniors Cooper Costello and Nikko Carrillo won their individual events for the boys. 

Seniors Brynn Graham and Emma Gilbert won their individual events for the girls. The all-senior girls’ 200 freestyle relay of Brynn Graham, Emma Gilbert, Ava Bennett, and Athena Wigo won as well.

For the Santa Barbara boys, Gabriel Gil won the 200 IM and placed second in the 100 backstroke.  Evan Encell-O’Hara won the 50 freestyle and placed second in the 100 free.  Mateo Obando placed second in the 100 fly and third in the 50 free. 

For the Dons girls, Abby Webber won the 200 and 500 freestyle in season-best times.  Nalani Yim won the 50 free and placed second in the 100 free.  Sofia Stevens finished second in the 100 backstroke and third in the 100 free.  Addie Sweeney placed third in the 100 breast and the 50 free.  

Santa Barbara hosts Buena on Tuesday.

The DP boys improved to 4-0 in Channel League competition and 4-1 overall. The girls improved to 3-1 both overall and league competition.
