San Marcos’ Ava Carter won two events and was part of two winning relays as the Royals’ boy and girls both win against Pacific Thursday.

Carter won the 400 meters in 59.42, and the 200 in 26.11, and was part of the winning 4 x 100 relay and 4 x 400 relay.

“Ava ran great today,” San Marcos coach Marilyn Hantgin said. “She is very motivated to improve each week.”

In other girls events for San Marcos, Kiala Haas won the 800 meters in 2:23 and anchored the winning 4 x 400 team. Kate Edgar won the 300 hurdles in 50.17 and placed second in the 100 hurdles, and won the long jump with a leap of 16-4.

Makenzie Fauver won the 100 hurdles, ran on both winning relays and was second in the triple jump.

“Overall, our girls were competitive and ran solid races,” Hantgin said.

For the boys, Jonas Strand won the 400 in 51.98 and was on the winning 4 x 400 team.

“Jonas has done a great job all year in the open 400,” Hantgin said. “It’s not an easy race, and he really makes it look easy.”

Justin Hess won the 800 in 2:03.87.

“Justin is coming back from an injury,” Hantgin said. “I couldn’t be happier that he is healthy and ready to have a great end to his high school career the next several weeks.”

The Royals head to the Mt. SAC relays on Saturday.
