San Marcos softball erupted for a 14-1 non-league victory over Fillmore High on Wednesday in Fillmore.

While the Royals’ offense was a consistent presence throughout the game, Lucy Dessert and Caroline Wang combined in the circle to hold the Flashes to just one run on four hits.

San Marcos began the game with two consecutive two-run innings as Lucy Dessert roped a two-run single in the first, while Isa Malarkey and Reese Large each had RBI singles in the second to make it 4-0.

That score held until the fourth inning, when Solana Sandoval and Malarkey led off the frame with back-to-back solo home runs to center field. Later in the inning, the Royals extended the lead to 8-0 on two Fillmore errors.

After the Flashes got a run in the bottom of the fourth, the 8-1 score held until the seventh inning. In the seventh, San Marcos put the cherry on top of the win with a six-run frame.

Sandoval came up with an RBI triple, Malarky drove home her third run on a single, Wang hit an RBI sacrifice fly and three more runs came in to score via defensive miscues.

Malarkey and Large each went 3-for-4 for San Marcos and scored three runs apiece. Meanwhile, Sandoval went 2-for-5 with two runs scored and Dessert added two hits of her own.

San Marcos will compete in Righetti High’s Best of the West Tournament beginning on Thursday.
