San Marcos swim earned a clean sweep of the second annual 14-team Tri-County Swim Invitational on Thursday in Santa Barbara.

The Royals’ boys team placed first with an overall score of 466.50 to beat out second-place Cate at 333.50 and third-place Dos Pueblos. Meanwhile, the San Marcos girls totaled 522 points, Dos Pueblos came in second at 439.50 and Cate placed third.

In combined competition, San Marcos’ 988.50 points led the pack and the Chargers’ score of 764.50 was good for second place.

“I was proud of our athletes today,” San Marcos head coach Chuckie Roth said. “Coming off spring break, I am not sure we were (at) our best. However, our depth made a big impact on the meet results.

“Today was a five-hour meet, and I appreciate all the athletes who found a way to be there to swim for their team.”

San Marcos

On the boys side, Nolan Clark once again rewrote the program record books as his time of 49.71 seconds in the 100 butterfly bested his own school record and won the race. He also won the 100 backstroke at 51.73 seconds.

The Royals also won a pair of relays, as Cole Racich, Christian Yonker, Dunkan Hunt and Will Stuart won the 200 freestyle relay with a time of 1:30.21, and Stuart, Yonker, Racich and Clark came together to win the 400 freestyle relay at 3:16.39.

As for the girls, Sophia Hall touched first in the 50 freestyle with a time of 24.37 seconds and Ella Grube’s lifetime best of 52.74 seconds in the 100 freestyle gave her first place.

In the 200 freestyle relay, Hall, Grube, Sophie Yonker and McKenna Stuart came out on top with their time of 1:40.77.

San Marcos will host Buena for a Channel League meet next Tuesday.

Dos Pueblos

The Chargers were led by Riley Moore and Dasha Dvreeva on the girls side, as they each won their individual events and joined forces with Gwyneth Kinsport and Talia Marshall to win the medley relay.

The girls 4×100 freestyle relay team of Dvreeva, Moore, Marshall and Lucy Watson picked up a win as well for Dos Pueblos.

Meanwhile, Eli Carnaghe had a big day for the Charger boys with a pair of individual event victories.

The Dos Pueblos tandem of Carnaghe, Andrew Davies-Nunez, Aricin Marshall and Kevin Yan rounded out the standouts with a second-place showing in the 4×200 freestyle relay.

Cate

The second-place Rams boys team got out to a hot start as Josiah Hansen, Devon Liang, Wil Rivera and Jae Wykoff led off the meet with a win in the 200 medley relay.

Liang also earned an individual win in the 100 breaststroke, while Hansen’s time of 50.62 seconds in the 100 butterfly was good for third place and a new Cate record.

The Cate girls 200 medley relay team of Emi Kanda-Gleeson, Sofia Wang, Jen Won and Makayla Niu made some program history of its own with a school-record time of 1:56.30.

The records continued to be broken for the Rams, as Kanda-Gleeson took second place and shattered her own 100 backstroke record that she had set earlier this season.

Cate will be back in action next Thursday on the road against Foothill Tech.

Santa Barbara High

The Dons got a standout performance from Jules Horton, who touched first in both the 200 and 500 freestyle races with CIF-SS automatic qualifying times.

Horton joined Elisa Hine, Rose Nelley and Luna Morancey to finish top four in both the 200 freestyle and 200 medley relay races.

Meanwhile, Oliver Kelly took fourth in the 50 freestyle and sixth in the 100 breaststroke.

The Dons will host Ventura next Thursday at 3:15 p.m. in their final dual meet of the season.

Carpinteria High

The Warriors turned in a strong showing, with 29 of 36 individual swims resulting in personal best times and nine CIF-SS consideration times.

“There were so many standout swims. I am so very proud of everyone’s efforts today,” Carpinteria High head coach Jon Otsuki said.

Jake Ehlers led the charge for the Warriors, taking second place in both the 100 and 200 freestyles and setting new program records along the way. Ehlers also led off the 4×50 relay and narrowly missed the school record by .03 seconds.

“Jake has put in the necessary work all season, and it was payoff day today,” Otsuki said.

Sky Korling earned CIF-SS consideration times in the 50 freestyle and 100 fly, and Stefano Piccoletti did the same in the 100 breaststroke.

On the girls side, Izzy Scott made CIF-SS consideration time in the 50 freestyle, and the 200 medley relay team of Lucy Moore, Klari Blackman, Hazel Dugre and Scott secured the team’s first CIF-SS consideration time in their event.

“We were blessed with optimal weather throughout the day,” Otsuki said. “Racing against faster swimmers was an opportunity to push limits, sharpen our mindset, and elevate our performance, and they responded.

“I was not sure how the team would perform coming back from spring break, but they were able to shake off the cobwebs and compete at a high level.”

The Warriors will be on the road against Fillmore next Wednesday.
