Logan Patterson Deakyne continued his stellar senior season for the Royals with individual victories in the 110 hurdles, 300 hurdles and 400-meter race. He also teamed up with Alex Silva, Eddie Perez and Dalton Shupe to win the 4×400 relay.
“Logan is inspiring to all that watch him,” Hantgin said. “He broke 50 seconds in the open 400, running 49.76. He’s been trying to break 50 for a while. He’s done it in a relay, just not the open.”
Meanwhile, TJ Deakyne came out on top in the long jump, triple jump and high jump for the Royals.
“TJ continues to improve. It’s difficult to be a jumper because there is a lot of stress on the legs, but TJ has learned how to deal with the demands,” Hantgin said.

Wyatt Degner also had a strong individual performance, winning the 1,600-meter race, placing second in the 300 hurdles and earning third in the 110 hurdles.
“Wyatt can run almost anything. He is strong and very athletic. It’s been such a pleasure having him on the team,” Hantgin said.
On the girls side, Sofi Hernandez crossed the finish line first in the 1,600-meter and 3,200-meter races.
“Sofi is a very talented runner. She is strong and loves competition,” Hantgin said. “Sofi is heading to Westmont to further her running career, and I know she will do great things for them.”
Elsie Tuttle rounded out the Royals’ standouts with a first-place finish in the 400-meter race.
Santa Barbara High

Elina Stump did it all for the Dons, taking first place in the triple jump (37-7.5), long jump (17-9.5) and 200-meter race (26.10). She also came in second in her 400-meter race debut.
“We’ve been doing a lot of technical work on [Stump’s] jumps and 200 and it was nice to see it coming together today,” Santa Barbara High head coach Olivia Perdices said.
In the throws, Malachi Johnston led the way for the Dons with a first-place performance in the shot put and a second-place showing in the discus.
“Not [Johnston’s] best day, but he’s a guy who’s going to show up and compete in any situation,” Perdices said.
Olivia Arevalo (300 hurdles), Nonia Brown (shot put) and Kik Van Engelen (800-meter) all recorded personal bests and won their respective events.
Santa Barbara High will send athletes to the Arcadia Invitational on Saturday.
