The San Marcos swim team competed in the Mt. San Antonio College Invitational on Saturday in Walnut.
The Royals’ boys and girls teams combined for 16th place in a pool of over 90 schools from the Western United States.
“I was truly impressed with how we competed, with many students rising to the occasion,” San Marcos coach Chuckie Roth said. “Our team dynamic was awesome. We set the stage for what’s gonna be a great swim season. We left the meet more confident and excited for our next challenges.”
Nolan Clark shined for San Marcos, reaching the finals in two individual events and competing in two relays that placed in the top 10. His 100 butterfly time of 49.99 seconds broke the Royals’ school record.
Clark also reached the finals in the 100 butterfly and 100 backstroke, earning fourth place in the butterfly.
Meanwhile, Sophie Hall also reached the finals in two events, impressing in the 50 freestyle (24.18) and 100 freestyle (53.23).
Kalista Hall (200 freestyle, 1:59.43), Will Stuart (100 breaststroke, 59.17) and Sophie Yonker (50 freestyle, 24.46) all made it to the finals in their respective events as well.
Kalista and Sophie Hall, Yonker and Nya Cable competed in the girls 200 medley relay, while Duncan Hunt, Stuart, Clark and Cole Racich came in seventh in the boys 200 medley relay.
Ryder Wilson, Jacob Angel, Racich and Hunt rounded out the standouts in the 200 freestyle relay with a time of 1:32.53.
San Marcos will take on Oxnard on the road on Monday.
