San Marcos swim battled to a rivalry sweep of Dos Pueblos in a Channel League meet on Thursday in Santa Barbara.

The Royals’ girls earned a 95-75 victory, while the boys squad came out on top over the Chargers by a score of 90-80.

The San Marcos girls received first-place finishes from Sophie Yonker (50 freestyle, 24.51), Ella Grube (100 freestyle, 53.62), Kalista Hall (500 freestyle, 5:23.9) and Sophia Hall (100 breaststroke).

Grube and Hall also shined in other events, as Grube took second in the 50 freestyle and Hall touched second in the 100 fly.

Meanwhile, Makenna Stuart placed third in the 100 freestyle and second in the 200 freestyle, while Nya Cable took second in the 200 IM and 100 backstroke.

“So many girls rose to the occasion,” San Marcos head coach Chuckie Roth said. “Senior Anna Holmes had some huge swims, as did inspirational icon Bethany King. The whole team gave all they could for the team. I am a proud coach. 

“All the girls were amazing and proud of their extra efforts.”

As for the boys, San Marcos’ Nolan Clark was the lone double individual event winner, claiming first in the 100 butterfly (50.55) and 200 IM (1:59.95).

Other victories for the Royals included Cole Racich (200 freestyle, 1:46.61), Jacob Angel (500 freestyle, 4:49.97) and Will Stuart (100 breaststroke, 59.03).

Christian Yonker picked up a second-place finish in the 50 freestyle at 22.22 seconds and came in third in the 100 freestyle at 48.82 seconds.

Racich also placed second in the 100 freestyle at 48.07 seconds, Angel’s time of 1:05.55 in the 100 breaststroke was good for second and Stuart came in third in the 200 freestyle at 1:48.88.

“The boys were very excited to race and swam with passion and purpose,” Roth said. “We have improved a lot and had a lot of guys swimming out of position to help the team. 

“Several athletes swam season-best times. I am proud of this group and how they are coming together. “

The Charger girls were led by Dasha Dzveera, who won her individual event, while the medley relay team of Dzveera, Riley Moore, Gwyneth Kinsport and Devereaux Wigo picked up a victory as well.

Eli Carnaghe won his individual event for the Dos Pueblos boys and was joined by Andrew Davies-Nunez, Grant Nelson and Channing Wigo in a first-place 4×100 freestyle relay performance.
