San Marcos track & field continued its early-season action with a strong showing at the Maurice Green Invitational on Saturday in Thousand Oaks.
“It was a super hot day down at Oaks Christian, but all of the kids competed well all around,” San Marcos head coach Marilyn Hantgin said.
Logan Patterson Deakyne led the charge for the Royals, winning the 300 hurdles with a personal-best time of 38.63 seconds, which is good for a top-six time in the CIF Southern Section this season.
“Logan had great competition today running against some of the best hurdles in the state,” Hantgin said. “Logan battled the heat to pull out the win. I’ve been coaching for almost 30 years and this is the first time I’ve had a hurdler run in the 38s. I am so excited and happy for Logan.”
Meanwhile, Nashia Darucs recorded a pair of personal bests, finishing the 200-meter in 27.73 seconds and jumping 15-3 in the long jump.
Margaret Deakyne also had a strong day in the jumps, earning a mark of 4-11 in the high jump and 32-1.5 in the triple jump. Dalton Shupe placed fourth in the pole vault with a clearance of 12-2.
The Royals will be on the road for a Channel League meet against Rio Mesa on Wednesday.
