The Santa Barbara Chamber Players (SBCP) invite music lovers to join them for the second concert of their 2023-24 season under the acclaimed conductor Mary Beth Woodruff. Their performance at 7:30 p.m. on Feb. 10 at the Music Academy Hahn Hall promises a diverse program sure to delight Santa Barbara audiences.

The concert opens with Mendelssohn’s Hebrides Overture, a powerful and evocative piece inspired by the rugged beauty of the Scottish coast. Listeners can expect dramatic swells and contrasting moods that paint a vivid sonic picture of the wild landscape.

Following is Vaughan Williams’ Lark Ascending, a beloved work featuring violin soloist Sara Bashore, a local Santa Barbara performer and educator. This delicate and virtuosic piece captures the soaring flight and joyful song of a lark, showcasing Bashore’s technical skill and lyrical interpretation.

The program concludes with Beethoven’s Symphony No. 7, a cornerstone of the orchestral repertoire. This energetic and triumphant symphony, nicknamed “Dance Symphony” for its lively rhythms, is sure to leave audiences feeling uplifted and inspired.

“We’re excited to present this engaging program that showcases the versatility and power of the chamber orchestra,” said SBCP President Nancy Mathison. “Mary Beth Woodruff’s insightful leadership will bring these pieces to life with fresh perspective and nuanced details.”
