While Santa Barbara City Hall is closed for the holidays, it won’t be a holly jolly time for any bugs or pests taking up residence in the 100-year-old building.

Residents may have noticed a yellow and gray tent over City Hall as the building undergoes fumigation that started Monday and continues through Wednesday.

The fumigation was part of the city’s normal maintenance schedule for pests. Bryan Latchford, the City of Santa Barbara’s community engagement manager, said it’s been many years since the last time the building was fumigated.

“It’s being fumigated now during the normal city holiday closure as many non-emergency offices are already closed and this limits the impact to residents,” Latchford said.

Most non-emergency city offices closed Monday and will stay closed through Jan. 2 for Christmas and New Year’s, including City Hall at 735 Anacapa St.

The Police Department, Fire Department and Harbor Patrol emergency services will be fully staffed during the holidays.

All normal city operations will resume Jan. 5.
